Build a filing history

  • List each year you believe is missing, uncertain, or incomplete.
  • Find the most recent filed returns, amendments, and FBAR acknowledgements.
  • Keep copies of any tax notices and their envelopes; note the response dates.
  • Ask your reviewer to identify the years and correction options to evaluate.

Gather records by calendar year

  • Income statements, foreign tax returns, and proof of tax payments.
  • Foreign account statements and ownership or signature-authority records.
  • Travel logs, residence documents, and employment records.
  • Records relating to businesses, pensions, investments, property, gifts, and inheritances.

Prepare factual questions

  • What did I file, when, and what records support that history?
  • Which records are missing, and how can I obtain them?
  • What deadlines or notices require prompt attention?
  • Which specialist should review eligibility or legal questions before I submit anything?

Keep the review boundary clear

  • This checklist does not determine eligibility for Streamlined procedures or another relief route.
  • It does not provide a non-willfulness statement, penalty promise, or submission package.
  • Do not use a template to invent or replace your own facts.
  • Share sensitive records only through the secure process agreed with your reviewer.

Use this to prepare for a review.

This resource helps organize records and questions. It does not determine filing requirements, eligibility for relief, tax treatment, or your deadlines. Keep completed worksheets private and use the secure process agreed with your preparer.
