FAQ

What is an FBAR?

Answers to the most common FBAR questions: accounts, thresholds, ownership, deadlines, and how FBAR differs from Form 8938.

An FBAR is the electronic Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts filed with FinCEN by certain U.S. persons with reportable foreign financial accounts. The review includes account type, ownership or signature authority, maximum value, and the combined value of accounts during the calendar year. It is separate from the federal income-tax return and from Form 8938.
