Do I report crypto held abroad?
A fact-based starting point for digital assets held at foreign exchanges, custodians, or private wallets.
Digital-asset income and foreign-asset information reporting are separate questions. Review the custody platform, legal entity, account structure, asset type, transactions, and current IRS and FinCEN guidance. A foreign exchange account, self-custodied wallet, and DeFi position should not be treated as identical facts.
