FBAR for Americans with ING Accounts
ING is a major Dutch bank with operations in the Netherlands and other countries. Americans with ING accounts held outside the US must report them on FBAR if the aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any point during the calendar year.
Which ING Accounts Are Reportable
All ING accounts held outside the US: current accounts, savings accounts, investment accounts, pension accounts, and joint accounts.
How to Get Your ING Statements
ING provides statements through online banking (Mijn ING). Log in, navigate to "Overzicht" or "Documenten," and download PDFs.
Currency Conversion
ING Netherlands accounts are denominated in EUR. Convert all balances to USD using the Treasury Department's year-end exchange rate.
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting investment accounts — ING investment products are reportable.
- Not aggregating — combine with all other foreign accounts.
- Using wrong exchange rate — Treasury year-end rate.
FBAR Deadline & Filing Process
Due April 15, automatic extension to October 15. Filed electronically through FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System.
