FBAR for Americans with Emirates NBD Accounts
Emirates NBD is one of the largest banks in the UAE. Americans with Emirates NBD accounts held outside the US must report them on FBAR if the aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any point during the calendar year.
Which Emirates NBD Accounts Are Reportable
All Emirates NBD accounts held outside the US: current accounts, savings accounts, investment accounts, and joint accounts.
How to Get Your Emirates NBD Statements
Emirates NBD provides statements through online banking. Log in, navigate to "Accounts" → "Statements," and download PDFs.
Currency Conversion
Emirates NBD accounts are denominated in AED (UAE dirham), which is pegged to the USD at 3.6725. This peg simplifies currency conversion. Convert all balances to USD using the Treasury Department's year-end exchange rate (or the pegged rate).
Common Mistakes
- Not aggregating — combine with all other foreign accounts.
- Using wrong exchange rate — Treasury year-end rate (or pegged rate).
- Missing joint accounts — reportable if you have signature authority.
FBAR Deadline & Filing Process
Due April 15, automatic extension to October 15. Filed electronically through FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System.
