FBAR for Americans with Deutsche Bank Accounts
Deutsche Bank is Germany's largest bank with global operations. Americans with Deutsche Bank accounts held outside the US must report them on FBAR if the aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any point during the calendar year.
Which Deutsche Bank Accounts Are Reportable
All Deutsche Bank accounts held outside the US: Girokonten (checking), Sparkonten (savings), investment accounts, pension accounts (Riester, RĂĽrup), and joint accounts.
How to Get Your Deutsche Bank Statements
Deutsche Bank provides statements through online banking (Deutsche Bank Online). Log in, navigate to "KontoauszĂĽge," and download PDFs.
Currency Conversion
Deutsche Bank accounts are denominated in EUR. Convert all balances to USD using the Treasury Department's year-end exchange rate.
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting pension accounts — Riester-Rente and Rürup-Rente are reportable.
- Not aggregating — combine with all other foreign accounts.
- Using wrong exchange rate — Treasury year-end rate.
FBAR Deadline & Filing Process
Due April 15, automatic extension to October 15. Filed electronically through FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System.
