FBAR for Americans with DBS Accounts
DBS is Singapore's largest bank and a major Asian financial institution. Americans with DBS accounts held outside the US must report them on FBAR if the aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any point during the calendar year.
Which DBS Accounts Are Reportable
All DBS accounts held outside the US: savings accounts, current accounts, investment accounts, CPF-linked accounts, and joint accounts.
How to Get Your DBS Statements
DBS provides statements through online banking (DBS iBanking). Log in, navigate to "Accounts" → "Statements," and download PDFs.
Currency Conversion
DBS accounts are denominated in SGD. Convert all balances to USD using the Treasury Department's year-end exchange rate.
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting CPF-linked accounts — DBS accounts linked to CPF are reportable.
- Not aggregating — combine with all other foreign accounts.
- Using wrong exchange rate — Treasury year-end rate.
FBAR Deadline & Filing Process
Due April 15, automatic extension to October 15. Filed electronically through FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System.
