FBAR for Americans with BNP Paribas Accounts
BNP Paribas is France's largest bank and a major European financial institution. Americans with BNP Paribas accounts held outside the US must report them on FBAR if the aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any point during the calendar year.
Which BNP Paribas Accounts Are Reportable
All BNP Paribas accounts held outside the US: current accounts, savings accounts, investment accounts (PEA), assurance-vie, and joint accounts.
How to Get Your BNP Paribas Statements
BNP Paribas provides statements through online banking (mes comptes). Log in, navigate to "Relevés," and download PDFs. For assurance-vie and PEA accounts, check the investment platform.
Currency Conversion
BNP Paribas accounts are denominated in EUR. Convert all balances to USD using the Treasury Department's year-end exchange rate.
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting assurance-vie — French life insurance investment products are reportable on FBAR.
- Forgetting PEA — Plan d'Épargne en Actions accounts are reportable.
- Not aggregating — combine with all other foreign accounts.
- Using wrong exchange rate — Treasury year-end rate.
FBAR Deadline & Filing Process
Due April 15, automatic extension to October 15. Filed electronically through FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System.
