FBAR for Americans with ANZ Accounts

ANZ (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group) operates in Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. Americans with ANZ accounts held outside the US must report them on FBAR if the aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any point during the calendar year.

Which ANZ Accounts Are Reportable

All ANZ accounts held outside the US: transaction accounts, savings accounts, investment accounts, KiwiSaver (NZ), superannuation (AU), and joint accounts.

How to Get Your ANZ Statements

ANZ provides statements through online banking (ANZ Internet Banking). Log in, navigate to "Accounts" → "Statements," and download PDFs.

Currency Conversion

ANZ accounts may be denominated in AUD (Australia) or NZD (New Zealand). Convert all balances to USD using the Treasury Department's year-end exchange rate.

Common Mistakes

  1. Not aggregating across countries — ANZ Australia and ANZ New Zealand accounts must be combined on one FBAR.
  2. Forgetting superannuation/KiwiSaver — reportable on FBAR.
  3. Using wrong exchange rate — Treasury year-end rate.

FBAR Deadline & Filing Process

Due April 15, automatic extension to October 15. Filed electronically through FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System.
